The Best Method to Develop Intuition
In my last article, How to Actually Listen to Your Intuition, I talked about how anxiety gets in the way of us listening to our intuition, because when we’re anxious we’re coming from an emotionally reactive place and so we make decisions based on those emotions and reactivity.
These decisions soothe us in the short term because they take away the anxiety for the moment. When we’re freaked out and constantly in an emotionally reactive state, that’s all that seems important. But this blocks you from accessing your intuition and working with the messages it’s trying to send you.
The best method to develop your intuition is to move out of the anxious, emotionally reactive state that only focuses on the short term. Because when we’re in this state, we’re only focused on what makes us feel okay right now, and that means we mainly focus on survival issues.
So, instead of thinking about the big picture, we’re asking questions like:
What job will give me a paycheck right now?
What person will make me feel less lonely right now?
What will distract or entertain me right now so I can feel better?
When we only focus on what will make us feel better right now, we cut ourselves off from hearing our own intuition, because intuition most often…
